Karen Armstrong founded the Charter for Compassion.  Listen to her here.

Compassion is a universal and unifying value found in all religions, cultures, and peoples, regardless of race, ethnicity, and life-style orientation.  Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures. The Charter for Compassion International works to sustain compassion globally and locally. For Brockport, this Charter for Compassion signifies our commitment, in action as well as in word, to be inclusively caring for all our neighbors.

·       We will strive to have the Brockport region designated as a “Charter for Compassion Community” where living compassionately by the Golden Rule is strongly encouraged.

·       We will work to raise awareness of all the compassionate agencies, programs, and resources that currently exist in our area. At the same time, we will identify areas of suffering and need in our community and, when possible, work to develop new programs, or improve current resources, aimed at reducing such suffering.

·       We will encourage our educators, religious leaders and government officials to actively support existing programs as well as new initiatives that manifest compassion for all our neighbors
